Institute for Energy Strategy
The Institute for Energy Strategy (ESI), founded in 2023, is a think tank and research hub established to support and advise Hungary’s Minister of Energy and to provide strategic, evidence-based insights for shaping Hungary’s and Europe’s energy, climate, and economic policies. Our mission is to serve as a stable and reliable foundation for policy design, delivering up-to-date data and high-quality analyses that address all facets of the energy–climate nexus. The institute’s role includes understanding, scrutinizing, and explaining leading trends and developments, identifying new phenomena, and proposing innovative solutions.
Operating at the intersection of government, markets, academia, and society, ESI acts as an honest broker, bridging the communication gap between experts and citizens. We believe that lasting solutions emerge when diverse stakeholders understand each other’s priorities and constraints. By maintaining active partnerships with government agencies, universities, research institutes, civil organizations, and international networks, we bring together the expertise and perspectives needed for transformative change. We actively seek and seize opportunities to contribute to our overarching goal of supporting the transformation of the Hungarian and European energy sectors, promoting a sensible green transition, diversifying energy supply, and advancing energy independence. In our vision, energy security, sustainable transition, and economic vitality are mutually reinforcing components of a viable national and global climate and energy strategy.
